Biblical Themes to look for during the movie

I. Train Station/Ruins The kids discover that they’re in their castle, but that 1300 years have elapsed in Narnia since their last visit. a. Our sense of time is out of whack. What we think is important doesn’t last. b. “Do not store up for yourselves…..” Matthew 6: 19-21 c. “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” 2 Peter 3:8

II. Seeing Aslan At first, only Lucy sees Aslan. Susan says, “I’d like to believe he was here, Lucy. But Trunkins’s way just makes more sense.” Later Susan asks, “Why do you think I didn’t see Aslan?” Lucy says, “I don’t know. Maybe you didn’t really want to.” Susan thinks for a moment and says, “You always knew you’d be coming back here, didn’t you?” Lucy says, “I hoped so.” Susan says, “I’d finally just got used to the idea of being in England.” a. “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Phillipians 3:20 b. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:2-3.

Later in the film — when the battle seems to be lost, Peter is standing at the foot of the shattered stone table, remorseful. Lucy steps up beside him, sympathetic. Peter says, “You’re lucky, you know —- To have seen him, I wish he’d just given me some sort of proof.” Lucy looks from Peter to the cracked table and says, “Maybe we’re the ones who need to prove ourselves to him.” a. “….if they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.” Luke 16:31 There are a great deal of other things to look for, but I am going to let you find them for yourself. Come and join us at this great movie.

We had 75 students at this great event last year. We desperately need drivers and adults who are brave enough to stay up all night. If you would like to help with this event contact Robert at the church office.

Also every student has to fill out a waiver for the Sports Zone complex. You can pick up those forms at the information table or at the church office.

Rock Stars on the Loose

With all the excitement and hype over the release of the video game “Rock Star” and the continued success of its predecessor “Guitar Hero”, I decided to to a blog on the subject. You can also read the article below to get a better understanding of the mania. I also thought it would be good, since we are having auditions for our very first youth worship band. Let me start by giving my biblical reference for the importance of rock and roll. It comes from the book of 1 Samuel in the 17th chapter. It is a story of a young teenager who through God’s blessing uses rock and roll to save Israel from a giant. The teenager, David, finds himself face to face with an armored giant with only a sling and a couple of river rocks. With accuracy and power that can only come from God, David took the “Rock and Rolled” the giant. (lol) Ok, on a serious note, there are some great lessons we can learn from this new fad, and by the way, I have played “Guitar Hero,” and I love it. So let’s look beyond the questionable lyrics and messages to the songs for just a moment and find application for us as Christians. In both of these popular video games, gamers try to emulate popular rock songs by pushing and rocking switches and levers. It is kind of like Dance Dance Revolution for the upper body. The better the player gets at pushing the right buttons at the right time the closer they get to rock mortality. In Rock Star, up to four players combine their skills to create a whole rock band. Here is the key! No matter how good they become at the game, they are never really making music. They rely on the creator of the music for the original sound. People spend hours playing this game so they can be a part of the music. As Christians we are similar. We are only playing along with the song that God has created. The more time we spend on God things the closer our song can become to the original. Even my greatest effort amounts to a bunch of nothing compared to what Christ has done. Jesus is the master guitarist, laying down a riff that no guitar hero before or ever will match. My goal is like Paul’s in 1 Corinthians 9, “24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. So you want to be a rock star like David? Let’s spend more time with the true “Hero” than with our “Guitar hero”

Rock on!
